The Event
THE GUST is an invitation-only charity fourball supporting local Long Island charities through a 36-hole team competition. Played across some of the most revered golf venues in the United States—Atlantic Golf Club, Maidstone Club, and Shinnecock Hills—the event brings together top players, notable guests, and philanthropic leaders for a distinctive and memorable experience.
Combining elite competition, refined hospitality, and purpose-driven giving, THE GUST offers rare access and meaningful impact. Each edition of the event is anchored at Atlantic Golf Club, with the second host course rotating between Maidstone Club and Shinnecock Hills, ensuring a consistent foundation with a dynamic course lineup year to year.
Rick’s Envelopes
Rick’s Envelopes are a defining tradition of The Gust.
Rather than formal presentations, Rick Hartmann chose something more personal. He would invite a representative from a local charity for coffee and quietly hand them an envelope containing a donation they weren’t expecting. No stage, no ceremony—just a genuine moment of support.
This simple act reflected Rick’s belief that giving should be personal. Today, Rick’s Envelopes live on as a reminder of his generosity and as a meaningful way The Gust continues to support local Long Island charities.
