Event History
Rick Hartmann
Rick Hartmann was the heart behind The Hamptons Invitational Charity Pro-Am, better known as The Gust. While Rick was widely regarded as one of the best PGA Professional players of his generation, he was far more proud of the impact he made off the course.
Rick devoted 30 seasons to Atlantic Golf Club as Head Golf Professional beginning in 1996, where he built traditions, mentored countless young professionals, supported caddies, and helped create a culture that truly felt like family. His competitive spirit and love for the game were matched by his commitment to people and the community around him.
In 2014, Rick started The Gust with a simple goal: to use golf to make a meaningful difference in the local community across the East End of Long Island. What began as a small idea quickly grew into something much bigger. In just four events, The Gust raised over $1 million for local charities — a reflection of Rick’s relationships, generosity, and ability to bring people together for a greater cause.
Rick will be remembered for his humor, honesty, competitiveness, and deep care for others. His legacy lives on through The Gust, the charities it supports, and a community that is better because he was part of it.
